Oil of the Magdalene

In the gospels, Mary Magdalene represents the previously fallen, now forgiven followers of Christ.  She shines the light of hope for all of us, who along with her, have stumbled on the pathway of salvation.

This image shares my interpretation of that ever so compelling vessel that the Magdalene presented to Our Lord, the evening He humbled Himself, to wash the feet of his disciples.  There was much to be said that evening about this follower of Jesus, and the outrageousness of her action, daring to anoint Our Lord’s feet with oil; using her lovely hair to wipe her tears from His feet.  Mary’s faith and trust in Our Lord’s unfathomable Divine Mercy allowed her to follow through with this act of Love.

May we, just like the Magdalene, have the courage and humility to approach Jesus with contrite hearts, as we anoint Him with the oil of true devotion.
