The Prodigal Son

The Prodigal Son
Luke 15:11-32

The parable of the Prodigal Son resonates with most of us. It is a story of redemption, and everlasting love, which comes from our Heavenly Father.

In this particular visual depiction, the artist highlights the nature of Agape (unconditional) Love, as presented to the son, by the father in this story. The repentant son gazes at his father with deep humility, the Father returns the gaze with great love for his son, throwing a royal cloak over his son’s shoulder, ordering a ring to be placed on his finger, and a fatted calf to be prepared for a great feast. The son, who was lost, has been found. The entirety of what Father possesses, also belongs to the son. Nothing that the son had done would separate him from the Father’s love. The son’s repentant heart brought him safely home, into the loving arms of the Father.
